take up 是一个多义词短语，那么在学习语言的过程中，我们要注意它在不同的语境下的含义.
五种词义
take up基本上有5种词义 ：
1.按照单词表面的意思，理解为拿起；
2.表示（尤其指消遣）学着做，开始做；
3.开始从事，开始担当（begin sth such as a job）;
4.表示占用；
5.表示接受（to accept sth that is offered or available）
第一种词义很好理解，就是根据单词本身动作行为就能领会。
比如：she took up her things and got out of the office.
第二种跟第三种词义基本上是表达差不多的意思。就是开始从事某一方面的事情，可以是你的兴趣点，也可以是某一项工作。
比如：Jack took up singing for a while,but soon lost interest.
She wants to take up this job.
第四种占用，就类似于英文单词occupy.
比如：The toys take up a lot of room.
第五种接受(挑战 建议 条件等)，也可以直接理解为就是接纳，像是接纳乘客
比如：Jessica took up the challlenge 。
The bus stopped to take up passengers.
